Changing Your Server’s Host Name in the Plesk

The hostname is what a device is called on a network. Alternative terms for this are computer name and site name. The hostname is used to distinguish devices within a local network. In addition, computers can be found by others through the hostname, which enables data exchange within a network, for example. Hostnames are used on the internet as part of the fully qualified domain name.

Entering the Correct Full Hostname in the Plesk System Settings

Note: Specifying an invalid host name will result in unpredictable Plesk behavior and server malfunction. The host name must be resolvable from the Plesk-managed server, especially if Customer and Business Manager is installed.

In order for the mail server to function properly, a correct full hostname must be entered in the Plesk system settings. Follow these steps:

  1. Click on Tools & Settings in the navigation bar on the left.
  2. In the General Settings area, click Server Settings
  3. Enter your domain name in the Full hostname section. This should be a fully qualified host name, but without an ending dot (for example, host.example.com).
  4. Click OK
